Information on where various patches are supposed to be placed on Troop 66 Scout uniforms

  1. Word Crest - Purchased at the Scout Shop.  This signifies the unity of scouting around the world.

  2. Scout Shoulder Loops - Purchased at the Scout Shop.  The color signifies what area of scouting a person is a member of (Cubs, Scouts, Venture, etc).  For Scouts the loops are GREEN.

  3. Garden City & RI - Unit patches that the Troop provides to new scouts.  In Troop 66 these are used INSTEAD of the Narragansett Council patch that most other troops use.  There should NOT be a Council patch on a T66 uniform.

  4. Troop 66 - Troop patch that is provided to new scouts.  Unlike many troops that use standard numbers, T66 has a special troop patch in the shape of the State of RI.

  5. Leadership Position -  If a scout has a leadership position within the troop (patrol leader, quartermaster, troop guide, senior patrol leader, etc) then they will be provided with a leadership patch.

  6. Trained - A trained patch can be worn if a scout or adult has completed position-specific leadership training.

  7. Rank & Arrow of Light - The rank patch is provided by the troop for each new rank a scout earns as they progress through scouting.  The Arrow of Light patch may be purchased at the Scout Shop for those scouts that earned their AoL award while in Cub Scouts.

  8. Order of the Arrow Lodge - Older scouts that are voted in to the OA by the Troop can wear their lodge patch once they have completed their OA Ordeal and are initiated into the lodge.  Other pocket flap patches like the "Totin' Chip" can be worn on the pocket flap as well.

  9. American Flag - This is the one patch that comes pre-attached to every scouting uniform.

  10. Patrol - Every year a scout is a member of a patrol.  If the patrol chooses a patrol name that there is a patch available for they may wear the patrol patch on their uniform.

  11. Temporary / Event - Many scouting events or activities come with a patch.  These patches often have a loop that can be secured over the button of the right pocket and worn by the scout.  Events like a Klondike Derby, Jamboree, and many others can be worn in the temporary patch spot.  When scouts attend summer camp at Camp Yawgoog they can earn "segments" for many activities that they can participate in.  The CY Segments patch can be worn in the temporary patch spot as well.

  12. Recruiter - The recruiter patch is considered the most important patch in all of scouting.  If a scout recruits another scout to join the Troop then they can wear a Recruiter patch under the right pocket with pride!
