Scouts will need to acquire the following additional items to go camping*:

Camping

Troop 66 has one campout per month from September through May.  We typically have a big multi-day trip in June.  We attend Camp Yawgoog for a week of summer camp.

  • Troop 66 aims to have one campout or big activity per month throughout the school year.  The campouts take place at various BSA properties within an hour or so from Cranston.  We try to go to different spots so that the scouts get to experience different camps throughout the region.  The troop provides all gear with the exception of some personal items (that will be listed below).  The scouts usually plan and prepare their own meals on these campouts, under the supervision of the adult leaders.

  • Over the winter we will typically have a Lock-In / overnight at Woodridge Church in lieu of a campout.  During the colder months we try to book campsites that have cabins so that scouts have the option of sleeping in a tent or cabin.  Occassionally, when the schedule doesn't allow for a full weekend of camping we will do an alternate activity on a weekend (trip to Boston or Mystic, Fishing Derby, etc.)

  • Troop 66 typically has a big, multi-day trip each June once school is out for the summer.  Sometimes this trip is done in conjunction with other local troops.  We go to places like Gettysburg, Washington DC, NH, or Western MA for 4 or 5 days.

  • We attend week 6 of summer camp at Camp Yawgoog in Hopkinton, RI.  Week 6 typically falls at the end of July or the first week of August.  This is a week-long sleepaway camp where the scouts can participate in a ton of various activities and work on merit badges.  Yawgoog is the highlight of the scouting year for all of the scouts in the troop and something that everyone looks forward to!
